My collages, whether photographic or sculptural, are atemporal and not geologically or geographically accurate, yet they attempt to organise and arrange what can never be fully grasped and understood. This is most evidenced in my collage Volatile Compounds #2 (2024) in which I create a fictitious demarcation, a map-like zone of interest that refers to Lucas’ appropriation of Smith’s Geological Map. In this work, I imagine potential future mining zones, while also playfully evoking the chalk marking left by the police around a dead body. Through amalgamated objects and images, I compose new historical knowledge that merges myths, alchemy and scientific evidence, where past, present and imagined futures converge.
